Barbeque lunch with dog point wines

Dog Point Vineyard is a family owned winery in Marlborough, New Zealand, which has been producing wine since 2002. It combines the considerable wine making experience of Ivan and Margaret Sutherland and James and Wendy Healy.  Originally the Sutherlands were private growers, while Ivan worked with James as viticulturist and winemaker at Cloudy Bay Vineyard. In 2002 they decided that together with their wives they would produce their own wines.  Ivan and Margaret’s son Matt joined the team in 2010 as sales & marketing director, after working in both the New Zealand and Australian wine industry. 

Dog Point focuses on four wines: sauvignon blanc, chardonnay, Section 94 (a sauvignon blanc aged in old oak barrels) and pinot noir, all of which is low cropped, hand -picked estate grown fruit. The company’s philosophy is to make regionally distinctive wines with a point of difference.

Their most famous wine is probably the Section 94, which Jancis Robinson described as a totally unique sauvignon from New Zealand.  The wine does not mention sauvignon blanc on the label, as it is so different from people's perceptions of what Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc should taste like.

Arrive for aperitifs at 1pm followed by an informative talk about Dog Point by Matt Sutherland of Dog Point and Jonathan Scarfe of Fields, Morris & Verdin and the barbeque at 2.15pm
