Wine Dinner with Katnook estate
friday, 19th may
Lying in the heart of Coonawarra's finest soils, Katnook’s vineyards are within the Limestone Coast region of South Australia. It’s rich history stretches back to 1896, when the first vintage was crafted by regional wine pioneer, John Riddoch. He recognised the enormous potential of the Coonawarra’s maritime climate and unique terra rossa soils which now define Coonawarra wine styles, notably Cabernet Sauvignon. Riddoch had built a woolshed at Katnook Station (as it was then known) in 1867 - today, 150 years later, this same Woolshed operates as Katnook's winery.
In 1971 the first vines of a new era were planted at Katnook with the first vintage made in 1979 by current winemaker – Wayne Stehbens. Katnook Coonawarra is now enjoyed in most wine consuming countries worldwide. It has garnered a swag of international trophies over the years – and boasts three wines in the prestigious Langton’s Classification of Australian Wines, in addition to a five-star rating in James Halliday’s ‘Wine Companion’ – the bible of Australian wines.
