Lazy, Hazy, Crazy Days

June 14, 2017

With the official start of summer almost upon us there are lots of outdoor events coming up for you to enjoy over the next couple of months at Great Fosters.

Meet the Bees and Tour of the Estate Lunches - various dates

Get up close and personal with the Great Fosters bees! You'll be suited and booted before our resident bee keeper escorts you to our apiary to meet the bees. He'll explain the ins and outs of life as a bee and you might even get to meet the queen if she's in residence.

Head Gardener, Russell Dixon, will then take you on a tour of the gardens and grounds surrounding the hotel. There's a lot more to see than the formal gardens and Russell will entertain you with his knowledge and will happily answer any questions you may have.

A glass of Champagne, hopefully on the Terrace, followed by a three course lunch with wine will follow.  Bee hives.jpg

Dog Point Barbecue - Sunday, 9th July

What summer would be complete without a good old barbecue and plenty of chilled white wine? Arrive for aperitifs at 1pm followed by an interesting and informative talk by Jonathan Scarfe of Fields, Morris & Verdin.

A family owned vineyard set in Marlborough, New Zealand, Dog Point has been producing wines since 2002. Having worked at Cloudy Bay, Ivan Sutherland and James Healy took the decision to set up on their own concentrating on four, regionally distinctive wines.

The barbecue will be available from 2.15pm with accompanying wines served throughout lunch.

Cocktails al fresco - Friday, 18th August

Need an excuse to wander around our gardens or just haven't been for a while? Stroll around the grounds picking up a cocktail at our two pop up bars while you soak up the ambiance on this self guided walk. A map of the estate will be given to you on arrival to ensure you make the most of your evening.

Why not stay for dinner in The Estate Grill and enjoy 20% off food when you have two or more courses.rose garden.jpg

Horticulture and Heritage Lunches - various dates

An opportunity to tour the estate with Russell, our Head Gardener for more than 20 years. His love of Great Fosters and passionate enthusiasm will both inform and entertain you. Dress accordingly as the tour will go ahead regardless of the weather.

A pre-lunch glass of Champagne will be served at midday followed by lunch on the Terrace or in The Estate Grill.

More details of these, and our other forthcoming events, are available here.
