Art

We plan to showcase the work of talented contemporary British artists in The Estate Grill. Our first artist will be Jeremy Houghton.

Kerry Kelly, director of Life – the Gallery, is delighted to present a Jeremy Houghton exhibition of immense vitality and colour to herald  the opening of The Estate Grill. Jeremy has been gathering a very impressive track record of achievements within the art world. He was an official artist for fashion week in 2007, painted the Queen in 2009 and has had solo exhibitions at some of the world’s premier galleries – The Saatchi Gallery in London and Everard Read Gallery in Johannesburg. In 2012 he was resident artist at Highgrove and was one of the BT’s official artists for the London Olympic Games, featuring in August’s edition of Art of England.

His ‘Flamingo’ paintings have attracted considerable attention in the UK, South Africa and most recently in India. As Houghton explains, ‘I have yet to find any other natural phenomenon which offers such a kaleidoscope of creative choices.’ His spontaneous style celebrates an aesthetic freedom and conveys a sense of dynamism and movement.

The ‘Flamingo Collection’ will be on show until Monday, 27th May and Houghton’s ‘Equine Collection’ will then be ready to greet our Ascot guests from the end of May until early July.

Houghton won the best in show prize at the Society of Equestrian Artists in December of last year, for his ‘Sam Waley-Cohen – Winning at Cheltenham”. He is currently working on new equine oils and watercolours and has access to Prince Faisal’s Denford Stud. As the winner of the Banstead Manor Prize for Best Sporting Picture, Houghton will also be visiting Banstead to see the world-famous racehorse Frankel, now retired to stud duties. Houghton will undoubtedly endeavour to capture on canvas a potential Ascot winner or two, providing the perfect inspiration for hotel guests as they breakfast in the restaurant before the races.
